The Orthodox Diocesan centre, Delhi is the headquarters of the Syrian Christian church. This faith has the oldest Christian following in India and can trace its history to St.Thomas who traveled to the subcontinent in the first century AD. The community became both influential and prosperous in Kerala with many of them settling outside their state.

The metropolitan had a diocese that stretched from Russia to America. The bishop, in his brief, wanted the centre to be open to all religions and invited bishops and priests from different faiths to inaugurate the centre.
