The design is an attempt to build a retreat on the banks of the sacred Kaveri river. Built on a 4' high plinth, rice fields surround the house. The building appears to be resting on this large platform and the plan is symmetrical with the rooms having been given functions rather than functions dictating the form. Constructed almost entirely in brick with the dome having very little steel it is also designed to be self sufficient in electrical energy, water and methane gas obtained from local bulls that also plough the land. The following brief is by a friend who wanted such a house but never got to build it:

The light is that of dawn or dusk; of the eve the beginning or of the end, one which intimately presages that which trembles just beyond.
